DescriptionGlutaric acid, also known as 1,5-pentanedioate or pentanedioic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as dicarboxylic acids and derivatives. These are organic compounds containing exactly two carboxylic acid groups. Glutaric acid exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. Glutaric acid, with regard to humans, has been found to be associated with several diseases such as glutaric aciduria type III, anorexia nervosa, ulcerative colitis, and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coa synthase deficiency; glutaric acid has also been linked to the inborn metabolic disorder 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coa lyase deficiency. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on Glutaric acid.
