DescriptionHexanoylglycine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as n-acyl-alpha amino acids. N-acyl-alpha amino acids are compounds containing an alpha amino acid which bears an acyl group at its terminal nitrogen atom. Hexanoylglycine is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Hexanoylglycine is a potentially toxic compound. Hexanoylglycine, with regard to humans, has been found to be associated with the diseases such as colorectal cancer; hexanoylglycine has also been linked to several inborn metabolic disorders including propionic acidemia, ethylmalonic encephalopathy, medium chain acyl-coa dehydrogenase deficiency, and short chain acyl-coa dehydrogenase deficiency.
