Proline and derivatives are compounds containing proline or a derivative thereof resulting from reaction of proline at the amino group or the carboxy group, or from the replacement of any hydrogen of glycine by a heteroatom. 4-Hydroxy​-L-proline is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). 4-Hydroxy​-L-proline exists in all living organisms, ranging from bacteria to humans. 4-Hydroxy​-L-proline is a potentially toxic compound.
