Metabolite Identification
Common Name4,8 dimethylnonanoyl carnitine
Description4,8 Dimethylnonanoyl carnitine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as acyl carnitines. These are organic compounds containing a fatty acid with the carboxylic acid attached to carnitine through an ester bond. Thus, 4,8 dimethylnonanoyl carnitine is considered to be a fatty ester lipid molecule. 4,8 Dimethylnonanoyl carnitine is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. 4,8 Dimethylnonanoyl carnitine participates in a number of enzymatic reactions, within cattle. In particular, 4,8 Dimethylnonanoyl carnitine can be biosynthesized from 4,8-dimethylnonanoyl-CoA and L-carnitine; which is mediated by the enzyme carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 2, mitochondrial. In addition, 4,8 Dimethylnonanoyl carnitine can be converted into 4,8 dimethylnonanoyl carnitine; which is catalyzed by the enzyme peroxisomal membrane protein. In cattle, 4,8 dimethylnonanoyl carnitine is involved in the metabolic pathway called the oxidation OF branched-chain fatty acids pathway.
