Metabolite Identification
Common NamePA(16:0/18:1(11Z))
DescriptionPA(16:0/18:1(11Z)), also known as PA(16:0/18:1) or PA(34:1), belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 1,2-diacylglycerol-3-phosphates. These are glycerol-3-phosphates in which the glycerol moiety is bonded to two aliphatic chains through ester linkages. Thus, PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) is considered to be a glycerophosphate lipid molecule. PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) participates in a number of enzymatic reactions, within cattle. In particular, PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) can be biosynthesized from lpa(16:0/0:0) and cis-vaccenoyl-CoA through the action of the enzyme 1-acyl-sn-glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase epsilon. In addition, Cytidine triphosphate and PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) can be converted into CDP-DG(16:0/18:1(11Z)) through its interaction with the enzyme phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase 2. In cattle, PA(16:0/18:1(11Z)) is involved in the metabolic pathway called cardiolipin biosynthesis CL(16:0/18:1(11Z)/16:0/18:1(11Z)) pathway.

Enzymes

General function:
Lipid transport and metabolism
Specific function:
Catalyzes the conversion of phosphatidic acid (PA) to CDP-diacylglycerol (CDP-DAG), an essential intermediate in the synthesis of phosphatidylglycerol, cardiolipin and phosphatidylinositol (By similarity). Exhibits specificity for the nature of the acyl chains at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions in the substrate, PA and the preferred acyl chain composition is 1-stearoyl-2-arachidonoyl-sn-phosphatidic acid (By similarity). Plays an important role in regulating the growth and maturation of lipid droplets which are storage organelles at the center of lipid and energy homeostasis (By similarity).
