Description2-Methylbutan-1-ol, also known as sec-butylcarbinol or 2-methylbutyl alcohol, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as primary alcohols. Primary alcohols are compounds comprising the primary alcohol functional group, with the general structure RCOH (R=alkyl, aryl). Thus, 2-methylbutan-1-ol is considered to be a fatty alcohol lipid molecule. 2-Methylbutan-1-ol exists as a solid, very hydrophobic, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral molecule. 2-Methylbutan-1-ol exists in all eukaryotes, ranging from yeast to humans.
