Metabolite Identification
Common NameL-Valine
DescriptionL-Valine, also known as (S)-valine or L-valin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as valine and derivatives. Valine and derivatives are compounds containing valine or a derivative thereof resulting from reaction of valine at the amino group or the carboxy group, or from the replacement of any hydrogen of glycine by a heteroatom. L-Valine exists as a solid, possibly soluble (in water), and a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa) molecule. L-Valine exists in all living species, ranging from bacteria to humans. L-Valine is a potentially toxic compound.
